Focus Canada: between international trade, Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability

New headquarters for the Consulate of Canada in Milan, which inaugurated its offices on Oct. 10 in the presence of Mayor Giuseppe Sala and Ambassador to Italy Elissa Golberg. The new office is located a stone’s throw from Piazza del Duomo, at 11 Via Verziere, and has been awarded Leed Id+C environmental certification at the Gold level, a very clear sign of Canada’s commitment to sustainability.

There are numerous reasons for us to analyze the country Canada carefully:

  • first of all, the size of international trade between the two territories: Italy is Canada’s second largest trading partner in the European Union and the eighth largest on a global scale; last year, bilateral trade between the Northern Italian area and Canada was 5.3 billion euros.
  • scientific and technological cooperation is also intense: universities in the city of Milan alone boast 15 percent of academic agreements between Canada and Italy (37 out of 242); on the other hand, Milan is a very important showcase for certain sectors and is one of the main global hubs for trade, a city known for its innovation and creativity. And above all, it is a place where cultures converge, ideas flourish and partnerships are born.

But that’s not all! For Italian companies, deepening the ways of collaboration with Canada is important because through this country it is easier to enter and develop in the U.S. market as well, thanks to the existing US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

The Roncucci&Partners North America team, with its President Giovanni Roncucci, participated in the networking event held at the MEET Digital Culture Center of Fondazione Cariplo, a repository of culture and innovation, attending the public presentation of the new Consul in Milan, Mr. Maxime Thérien. Through a succession of short speeches, videos and images, the Canadian testimonials shared the main themes supported and promoted by the Government of Canada as expressions of their own excellence or priorities: Artificial Intelligence, social inclusion and advocacy for the rights of the weakest, energy transition, sustainability and climate change, biodiversity protection, circular economy and inclusive experience exchange, digitization of primary sectors, multiculturalism.

Strategic and innovative, very important themes that are well suited to become collaborative activities and projects, between Italian and Canadian companies and institutions.

Canada and Artificial Intelligence: a project signed R&P

We mention as a first example an initiative of Roncucci&Partners currently engaged in disseminating experiences and knowledge on Artificial Intelligence.

With this objective, the project CANADA AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE is proposed: a technical-scientific mission to Canada to meet the leading players of the Canadian AI ecosystem between Montreal and Toronto cradle of the best AI application experiences on Health, Agriculture and Public Affairs sectors. The tour will then be enriched during 2024 by other stops in the U.S. and Saudi Arabia.
